Dave Grohl Still Hopes To Reunite With John Paul Jones In His 'Dream Band'

Dave Grohl must have, by now, lived out all of his musical fantasies, from playing drums in one of the the biggest bands in the world with Nirvana to fronting one of the biggest bands in the world in Foo Fighters to becoming brief bandmates with the likes of Tom Petty, Paul McCartney and John Paul Jones.

Grohl played with the Led Zeppelin bassist/keyboardist/arranger and co-founder Jones in the short-lived supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. He says the band, which also included Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, is his "dream band" and one he hopes to reconnect.

Celebrating Foo Fighters' latest studio album on a recent radio show, Grohl referred to Them Crooked Vultures' 2009 self-titled album "a dream come true."

In recent memory, Grohl has insisted that Them Crooked Vultures is "still a band," and he added this weekend that he hopes the trio reconvenes sooner than later.

Grohl said the project was the result of years of dreaming aloud between himself and Homme.

In practice, the band lived up to the pair's expectations because of Grohl and Homme's similar approaches and because "John Paul Jones is the greatest rock and roll bass player in the history of music."

He added: "When we sat down to start playing, it was about 30 seconds to a minute and we realized that this is a real band. This is the real deal. We would walk into the studio every day with no ideas. We would sit down, we'd have tea, we'd have coffee, we'd start jamming. By the end of that night, we'd have an eight minute-long opus. Just a rock masterpiece. It was incredibly inspiring. It was a really incredible time. I hope that someday we do it again."

Foo Fighters' 10th studio album, Medicine at Midnight, is available everywhere now.
