Do you think your child (and to a lesser extent, your family) would benefit from a NO-HOMEWORK policy? An elementary school teacher in Texas is implementing this process in her classes this year.
Richelle Terry, a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher at Evadale Elementary School, states she chose this new policy in her classrooms "to give them time to be a kid. Kids need to be kids. Family time is what they need. People are so torn and thrown in 90 directions and they need time to kick back and be together”.
The Evadale Independent School District DOES allow teachers to create their own lesson plans, but only if students meet that grade's necessary learning requirements.
Terry says she bases her choice on research pointing to higher test scores and high school graduation rates in Finland, a country that has little to no homework.
