Augusta Soul and Soul City Presents celebrate the Godfather of Soul with the James Brown Birthday Bash - May 3 at the Miller Theater
Augusta, GA–April 5, 2019–Augusta Soul, Soul City Presents and the Miller Theater are proud to present the James Brown Birthday Bash, featuring J.A.M.P. and the James Brown Band and hosted by Bootsy Collins on May 3 at the Miller. A celebration of the James Brown, his life and his continued influence on popular music and culture, the James Brown Birthday Bash will feature not only individual sets featuring the students of J.A.M.P. and the veterans of the James Brown Band, but a special set featuring both bands playing together. Bootsy Collins, the legendary bass player known for his solo work, his time with Parliament-Funkadelic and, most notably, as a primary purveyor of funk in James Brown’s early ‘70s band the JBs, will host. The event will also feature a tribute to Augusta’s own Sharon Jones, who would have celebrated her 63rdBirthday the following day.
Tickets will be free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Miller Theater is a historic Art Moderne movie palace, built in 1940, closed in 1985 and reopened on January 6, 2018 after a seven year, $23 million restoration. The SMG-managed facility is the home to the Augusta Symphony and presents a broad and diverse line-up of music, comedy, theatrical and dance performances.
